True Blood Season 3 Episode 4 Review - 9 Crimes

In the last few episodes of the True Blood Season Three we have witnessed the absurd past life, Tara’s senselessness, and Arlene’s boring ways. There were many story lines in the past few episodes out of which only a few were interesting. So what has this week offered?

This week’s True Blood Season episode has been titled “9 Crimes”. It begins with our Bill walking down the road after those wild sex frolics shown in last week’s episode. We watch as he walks into the darkness. We have witness a completely changed image of Bill in the past few episodes. A complete conversion is visualised in his integrity and disposition have been seen. This may also be owed to the separation between Bill and Sookie these days. May be we may get to see some interesting acts during Bill and Sookie’s reunion.

Their separation in recent days is the reason for the existing circumstances and story lines. And these story lines and circumstances are what are lending their hands to sustain the True Blood Season.

Bill makes a call to Sookie and over phone to break up with her. He ends his affair with her saying the last words of break up which goes "We fucked like only two vampires can.” After ending his relationship with him, he goes to King Russell to plot in killing Lorena in exchange for sharing information about Queenie. While talking about the barter, he informs him of Pam and Eric and their unlawful V operation. He cites that they procure V from Sophie Anne. He also signs the death warrants of the Nordic Vamps.

The magister goes on a raid for finding V. Pam asks Bill in turn to save her clean. King Russell in his mind has blue print of all this. In the end, as the 9 Crimes draws to completion, we find Bill drinking with Sookie. He tries to make her believe that there is none who really cares for her. Sookie replies him back saying there is no point in loving, which pays back his unworthy action. All these are said with the back ground ghostly tune of “Paradise Circus.”

After King Russell supplies his personal stock of V around the whole bar, Sookie is put into trouble. Bill warns her that she is exposed and stops her from falling into danger, and then he joins Lorena and King Russell in the banquet.

Now coming back to where we left, Sookie after getting that telephone call from Bill, finds affection from Alcide. Her love story matched that of Alcide who too had a recent break up and still in intense sorrow. Although Alcide has his own broken heartedness, she still manages to convince Sookie that everything will be alright between Bill and her.
Both Alcide and Sookie gets dressed up like a badass werewolves go to a werewolf club. At the werewolf club they spot her ex lover. At this point, King Russell comes in and reveals the truth on why the werewolves were under his control. He distributes some V to the werewolves and compels them to work harder for him if they want to have more of it. Then he leaves the club.

The story line turns a bit interesting at the end of the 9 Crimes when everyone start becoming werewolves except Sookie. This is believed to give a great push forward for the story line.

In this episode Jessica appears only for a little while. This is when our boring Arlene starts complaining to the owner of the bar that she is the only person coming for helping at the bar. So Sam hires Jessica for work at the bar. A visitor to the bar identifies her as from his own hometown and Jessica takes him out. Hoyt witnesses this from a little far away. There is no idea of what would happen or what the indication is. So we are left with no inkling on what would be the outcome.

Sam meets his family and his brother who are now kicked out of their house because they couldn’t pay their house bills. Sam talks to them and at last manages to knock some sense into them. They promise to behave well in the future and so they won’t be seen for the rest of the show, let us hope so.

Jason blackmails Andy to make him a deputy police officer. So an antagonist have raised in the play. Eric saves Lafayette from some enemy drug dealers.

If more attention had been given to Sookie and Bill, and if they had been the main story line of the 9 Crimes, the episode would have been awesome. But unluckily, there were several unexciting sub story lines that made numerous unwanted characters roaming around Bon Temps that almost eliminated these major characters from the play.

Eric has come out as someone whom audience would start liking in this episode. His willingness to deliver Pam from being tortured, getting into Sookie’s dream, his conversations with Lafayette and RuPaul makes him stand out in our minds.

Arlene has got more whiny and annoying in this episode although she appears for a little time only.

For a few episodes, we have been left wondering on what is on Tara’s mind about Franklin. Finally in this episode we get it. Franklin is more than a vampire. He is a monster. He forces Tara to part with more information. After this he ties her up and takes her to King Russell. So, Franklin is working for the king! This means that the contribution in informations by Bill to the king doesn’t make much difference in the accomplishment of Russell’s furthest goals.

This episode has made True Blood Season to take off in high gear. If it had been just like the earlier episodes where everyone is in want of something that they never get, it would have rendered the play too boring. But now with the presence of King Russell who supplies V and hires Franklin too, the story line gets sensible.

True Blood Season 3 Episode 3 Review - It Hurts Me Too

This week’s title for the True Blood Season Three’s episode is “It hurts me too.” The story opens up this week making us wonder whether the werewolves are on V or just they are strong just like vampires or even stronger than them. This leaves us questioning on how it was possible for Bill to defeat those werewolves who kidnapped him and even kill some of those in the car wreck. However, Lorena his past vampire friend is not hurt. She is alright.

Tara who had been trying to kill herself in recent days makes us feel like she either wants to life no more or she needs some feeling which we can’t just guess. Franklin Mott comes at hand and helps Tara greatly in overcoming her vexation. Franklin also helps Jess to chuck out her hassle. Although it is clearly revealed that he is up to something, we start liking the vampire for his good deeds. However, in this episode we find a quiet changed Tara. Our Tara who was earlier very much a voice of reason has acted somewhat embarrassingly in this episode. When she tells that vampire she doesn’t mind or in a sense it is ok for her even if he bites her.

Sam who has found his biological family starts back to Bon Tempus. Only his mum is not happy to see him go. There is some kind of mystery at their home. The TV set that they own is a flat screen one which doesn’t suit the poor surroundings of their home. You are left wondering whether Tom and his dad are glad to see Sam go because they feel that Sam may interfere into what they are up to.

Now Jason who wants to become a police officer appears a written test without knowing anything at all. However his confidence in himself shows up in his dialogue after appearing in the test that goes like “.....if it’s on the sample test it ain’t on the real thing. Everybody knows that.” The audience are left feeling funny about it.

Something more from Bill’s flash back shown in the last week’s episode continues. Although he seems as if he is a loving beloved, affectionate dad, and a devoted husband, the audience don’t seem to take it. When he is asked by his wife whether he is facing some kind of suffering, he gives a positive answer. There seems to be lots of meanings behind his reply. The flash back gives us a new revelation about Bill. We are left wondering on whether he was attempting to murder Caroline his wife before Lorena held him back. Lorena has enlightened Bill on a valuable message that if he wants to honour a human being, he has to keep away from him or her, and that a vampire getting close to human beings will only give them misery. It seems as if Bill is getting to accept this fact. May be he will keep away from Sookie for Sookie’s very own welfare’s sake.

Mr. Herveaux now appears on the scene. He has been sent by Eric. Mr. Eric offers to help Sookie out. The reason behind his willingness to help her is that he wants to rescue his father from being troubled by the vampires. Now we get to see a bold and confident Sookie. We feel really good about her confidence. Sookie at any cost wants to get her beloved Bill back. She is ready to go to extreme levels to get him back. She gets the assistance of Alcide a werewolf in her search for Bill.

Franklin Mott is another character whose real intentions are yet to be revealed. He trips into Bill’s house offering a commitment for our sweet looking Jess. He wants her to pert with some information. For whom does Franklin collect these information for still remains a mystery. We get a clue that he is obviously not doing it for King Russell Edgington. This we are able to guess because King Russell has Bill to do this for him. Now we are left wondering on who else would benefit from this.

Bill’s true character is revealed more and more with proceeding episodes. We have had a totally good image of him from the previous episodes. However, the image he has formed of himself in our hearts get shattered in this episode. He is a kind of person who says something and does something else. May be that he owes his dark characteristics to the hidden depths of his agony for the death of his young son. But that really weird sex scene that one could have never seen previously reveals his real hidden character. The neck snapping sex that the vampires have makes you feel too weird about all of it. All he does is put an outwardly good face, but from inside its all too bad. We also get an idea of that messy relationship that Bill and Lorena share with each other.

This episode is a little weird because of those werewolves, vampires and other strange beings, sex, etc. The season that began so well in its first episode, brought in so many dirty dialogues and nudity in its second one, and now in its third episode a weird sex scene.

On the whole, this episode has so many unnecessary story lines which render it boring. The parallel running story lines of Bill and Sookie are quiet interesting. The revealing of Bill’s stunning and frightening dark side makes this episode a bit more interesting. However, Arlene has some given some dirty and embarrassing dialogues that make us feel embarrassed ourselves. And as discussed earlier, Tara’s turn from being a voice of reason to someone who surrenders to a vampire’s desire to bite her.

But on the whole, this episode has brought in some fun. However, there is a lack in consistency in this episode. It would bring in some enthusiasm if the future episodes concentrate more on the story lines of Sookie, Bill, and the werewolves.

True Blood Season 3 Episode 2 Review - Beautifully Broken

The title of this episode is “Beautifully Broken”. This episode begins where the previous episode ended. Bill confronts the pack of werewolves that were attacking him. The werewolves are at the verge of getting defeated. Three werewolves got killed during the confrontation and one of them got his ear cut off. At this point, Russell Edgington, the king of the Mississippi vampires clad in red English riding jacket and riding a white horse, intervenes them. Werewolves are thus saved from being further humiliated by Bill’s brave fight which was defeating them shamefully. The King Russell Edgington is provoked by the way by which the werewolves brought Bill to his plantation and so he shows his irritation by putting a silver bullet into a werewolf.

Meanwhile, Lafayette saves Tara his cousin from destroying herself and from her crazy mum, and takes her to a mental institution so as to visit her crazy mum. Actually there is a genetic tendency in their family to be crazy. So, each one of them needs the other in order to get going in their life.

Sookie and Jess get back to their homes, each to her own. Sookie when getting back to her home almost kills Jason, while Jess when getting back to her home to find an already dead red neck. Jason wishes to have his circumstances changed, while Jess wishes to get rid of the dead body. Meanwhile Hoyt and Sookie come to soothe Jesse. Their attempt to console her goes down the drain. Hoyt and Sookie find a werewolf at Jesse’s place who is spying around.

Eric is told by Sookie of their encounter with the werewolves, and seeks for information on the whereabouts of Bill and the werewolves. A flash back comes at this point, in which years back how the late Godwin and Eric dressed like SS went and hunted a pack of werewolves in the Nazi Germany. The very same pack of werewolves is now at Mississippi working for King Russell. Circumstances are therefore now not favourable for Sookie. She is in a great danger because she would be now persuaded to be a tool to influence Bill.

Why would they want Bill is a question that would appear in the minds of the audience now. This is because King Russell has something to do with Bill. King Russell promises That he will make Bill a vampire sheriff if he acts an intermediary between him and the Queen of Louisiana, Queen Sophia. The intention behind this proposition is that a marriage alliance should come at hand. The marriage alliance is intended between the two vampire kingdoms. That is between the kingdom of Louisiana and the kingdom of Mississippi. This marriage alliance is believed to increase the power of King Russell’s kingdom.

Bill who is already provoked by the wide spread say that he was kidnapped and tortured, refuses to accept it. All of a sudden, a difficulty arises. His old friend called Lorena shows up. Bill who gets excited and happy on seeing her picks up a gas lamp and flings it at her. Thus she is set on fire. It seems that Bill and Lorena have that same thing happened in their past.

Lafayette as a safe measure brings Tara to the Merlotte’s so as to watch over her. This is followed by her encounter with a new pal who is another vampire. His name is Franklin. Franklin saves Tara’s life from two red necks who attack her when she comes out of the bar. Tara herself too puts up a great fight even in her drunken state. She punched them so efficiently at an unexpected moment of attack revealing her capability to stay alert even when intoxicated.

Sam who had gone in search of his biological family had discovered them. Sam’s red neck family is casually violent in nature. Sam reveals his true identity only to Tom his brother. However, Tom is not happy to see his brother. He dislikes him in both human and dog forms. His problem with Sam is something like “What about me?” Sam and Tom go on the road after a chat when a truck hits and almost kills Sam. Tom makes an escape at this point without even considering his brother deserted naked on the ground.

Now coming back to Jason; Jason had proved himself to be great with his heroic deed. Andy and others take down a meth ring with Jason’s great help.

Jess gets back home holding a chain saw. But she sees no one there. This thing disturbs her mind.

Although Eric basically is a cruel person, he suddenly becomes a true pal and defender for Sookie. In Sookie’s home, Eric forces Sookie to invite into her home that werewolf who was outside. After which Eric attacks that werewolf belonging to King Russell’s kingdom. This sudden soft corner that Eric shows for Sookie leaves the audience wondering on his unexpected crush over her. What happened after this will be known only in the next episode. So wait for a whole week to know it.

This week’s episode ‘Beautifully Broken” which is the second episode of the True Blood Season Three makes you feel as if it is an onset of new series of story lines. Since there is a lot of connection of these series with the previous seasons, the story lines did not come in to view properly. Since there are so many disclosures other than the major ones, Beautifully Broken makes us keep our selves questioning without getting the answers.

An amazing character is revealed in Lafayette who is very human and great. Lafayette’s dialogue, voice, its pitch, etc are extremely perfect I should say. The most humanly behaved character in this drama “True Blood Season Three” is obviously Lafayette.

A thing that seems to disturb the audience watching the show is the suddenly developing crush of Eric on Sookie. Its leaves the audience pondering over what has come upon him.

True Blood Season 3 Episode 1 Review - Bad Blood

The earlier episodes showed that a vampire called Bill Compton and a telepathic barmaid Anna Paquin (Sookie) from Louisiana town get into a romantic relationship after the vampire walked into where Anna Paquin works. The long wait and suspense ended when the “True Blood” began from where it left earlier. This week’s episode is titled “Bad Blood”. It opens with Anna Paquin discovering that her love Bill had been kidnapped. She begins searching him wildly along with werewolves, bad blood and gay porn.

Actually, Bill Compton has been kidnapped by Patrick Swayze’s brother. Patrick Swayze’s bro and his allies kidnap Bill Compton in a car. While the kidnappers are having an enjoyable time on the car, our vampire manages to break free of his fetters and create a big car crash which kills one person among the kidnappers. Deserted and drained out, Bill Compton faints away. Ahead of fainting Bill manages to send a signal to Jess but Jess is unable to get what the signal means.

Anna Paquin gets more worried about her beloved’s whereabouts and makes a complaint to the police. The police however consider that it is Sookie’s fault because she earlier had been unwilling to give a positive response to Bill’s proposal. In extreme rage, Sookie begs help from everyone including the infidel Eric to help her find her beloved. In a flirting manner, the colloquial Eric consents to help her in finding Bill.

Eric who usually has another plan, has nothing in Bill’s kidnapping case. The only reason behind is that the kidnappers had beat him to the punch. This makes Pam who is usually tireless to fall back if Eric does not tell about this Queenie by himself.

Queenie will be unhappy if Eric does not find out the vampire Bill Compton as he was needed for the V themed machinations. As luck would have it, she goes to Fangtasia that night along with the magister in town. A need arises that they need to talk about the stampede that happened all of a sudden in that location. They understand that a vampire is accountable for the torrent. So they go to Eric for solution.

The duo Eric and Queenie collocate with each other well till the magister in town goes away from there. After he leaves, Queenie realises that Eric would break out and start replying for all of her criminal acts if he does not move the rest of the V which Queenie gave him. If the V which was given to him by Queenie is not moved within 24 hrs duration, Eric will be replying the truth for all her criminal acts.

Queenie is in need of money at present and so she makes Eric and Lafayette, Eric’s local V conduit to give in. On the other hand, as luck would have it, she is not after Bill now.

Lafayette himself is not happy with his ongoing events in his life. His compulsion to do away with Tara from Sookie’s and Merlotte’s house after Tara had attacked Arlene and later her best pal, has made him to totally depend on Tara’s mum who is an earlier drunkard and an irritate. Since he has to work in two jobs, and at the same time sell V, he has little time in his hands and he is in a compulsive situation to work with Tara’s mother alone.

Mrs Tara knows that no one can save her daughter but God. She doesn’t heed to anything that had recently occurred in the life of Jason, therefore she feels that Reverend Daniels would visit her.

Since she got one more opportunity to get Tara back, a happy Mrs Tara carelessly pays less attention to the pills. Taking advantage of this, Tara gulps down all the pills inside the bathroom of Lafayette. There are so many pills that Lafayette has.

Both Jason’s and Tara’s reaction to the news about the involvement of Jason in the murder of Egg is severe. However luck would have it, Andy spreads the news that he killed Egg as a measure of self defence. Since all stuffs seem to go normally, Jason starts to his usual drinking habit soon. Andy uses this opportunity to send two women with Jason from the bar to home when all the people around at the Merlotte’s were noticing him. Jason’s guilt reveals him.

Jess keeps watch all over the place. Jason was brought from the bar, spots the flowers of Hoyt and feels very guilty of the crime. Jess tries to get him back to normal, but in vain. Now Sookie comes along and tells her if Bill Compton is found he can command any vamp. She asks whether Bill Compton has contacted her. Since Jess did not understand the signal sent by Bill, she says he hasn’t. So they decide to go in search of Bill.

Jess hides the red neck under the floorboards and goes with Sookie in search of Bill driving. They spot the wrecked car from which Bill had fled away.

Bill appears back from his makeshift grave and goes to a nearby house and feeds on an old woman. All of a sudden Bill realises that he is in Mississippi when he spoke for a while with that old woman. This very thing alarms Bill when he is attacked by some hungry English speaking wolves.

Sam, who has gone driving in order to find his original family, finds them but has not developed the courage to let them know who he actually is. An exception to this is Tommy his younger sibling. Sam lets him know of his identity.

Although the start wasn’t that great, the ‘Bad blood” was quiet good. The problem was with those subplots. The episode was trying its best to get in a lot without putting in too many story lines. The most wonderful aspect of the “Bad blood” was that it brought in the werewolves. The entry of werewolves will bring in more enthusiasm.

True Blood Season 3

The American drama series known as the True Blood that is broadcasted in HBO network is developed and produced by Allan Ball. The novel series known as The Southern Vampire Mysteries written by Charlaine Harris is the foundation of the story line of this drama. The play outlines the life of human beings and vampires living together at Bon Temps which is a fictional little town at Louisiana. The main characters of this play are Sookie Stackhouse (this role is played by Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a bar, and Bill Compton (this role is played by Stephen Moyer), a vampire. The substance of the story is the love affair that develops between the vampire Bill Compton and the human being Sookie.

The HBO cable network broadcasts this show in the US. The play is co-ordinately produced by HBO and Allan Ball’s film Production Company. The show was first broadcasted in the year 2008 on the seventh of September. There was a great acclamation for the first season of this show among the TV viewers. The first season received a Golden Globe award and an Emmy award among many other awards. The second season of the show started being broadcasted in the year 2009, on the fourteenth of July. It was widely announced on the thirtieth of July 2009 that there would be a third season too of the True Blood. The shooting for the third season began on the third of December 2009 and started being broadcasted on the 13 of June 2010. The True Blood got renewed on the 21^st of June 2010 for premiering in summer 2011.

History of how True Blood came to Television

An earlier drama series show called Six Feet Under that was broadcasted by the HBO for five seasons was also directed by Allan Ball. After the end of Six Feet Under, Allan Ball signed an agreement for two years with the HBO in the year 2005 to create and produce pilot program for HBO network. The foremost series under this project is the True Blood. After getting well acquainted with Southern Vampire Mystery books written by Charlaine Harris, read Dead Until Dark. This kindled his interest to bring Harris’s imagination to TV shows. Although Harris had previous offers to adapt for his written series, he selected working with Allan Ball since he was attracted to it.

The project got finalised with the above mentioned deal and Allan Ball took up the writing, direction and production of the show. In the early summer of the year 2007, the shooting for the series began.

Settings for True Blood

Digital Kitchen, the production studio which produced the title sequences for the shows Showtime’s Dexter and Six Feet Under produced the title sequence for True Blood too. The title sequence’s major portion is comprised of portrayals from Deep South setting. The sequence is played with the background music of the country music artist Jace Everett’s Bad things.

The title sequence is constructed based on “the whore in the house of prayer”. It blends contradictory images of religion, violence and sex, and displays these from the view point of a supernatural predator noticing humans from darkness. The sequence proceeds from dawn to dusk, thus expressing views like redemption and forgiveness. Major part of the footage that shows up in the title sequence was shot on location when on a four day trip around Louisiana by the production crew. There are also shots from Chicago and Seattle. Many crew members of Digital kitchen have also shown up in the title sequence.

The shots for the title sequence was framed in such a way to illustrate the way “religious fanaticism” and “sexual vigour” can bring out an animal out of a man.

The music for the True Blood series is supervised by Gary Calamar, according to whom the idea behind True Blood’s sound track is to create something “swampy, bluesy and spooky” and to bring in local musicians at Louisiana. The soundtrack albums of True Blood have been nominated for the Calamar Grammy Award twice. Musical instruments including guitar, piano, cello, glass harmonica, etc are played by one single man Nathan Barr, the composer who writes for True Blood series. As discussed earlier, the theme song is Bad Things by Jace Everett.

The play portrays some regular central characters and a group of temporary but rotating supporting characters. Although the story line of the True Blood series is fundamentally on Bon Temps, there are several roles played by actors who are not naively from America. Allan Ball, the producer of the show has sought people who would act out the characters naturally, rather than seeking actors who match the appearances described in the book. Harris, the writer of these books has accepted the reinterpretation understandingly.

Expectations

True Blood explores more of sex and violence in this third season of it. Sex has reached its wild peak in its third show “It Hurts Me Too”. Michael Ausiello of the Entertainment Weekly said that the show will the most "twisted sex scene in television history” before It hurts me too was broadcasted. It was only when the viewers saw it that they realised it was more than what was expected.

Ausiello has further revealed that a minimum of three central characters will be shot dead in the forehead early in this season. This is expected to bring in a twist into the story.

The story line which was going quite boring revved up in the 9 Crimes when the revelation on the reason why the werewolves were under the control of King Russell. The fact that he supplies vampires’ blood to these werewolves in order to get them work for him has finally brought in some sense into the story.

Too many subplots if cut off and if more concentration gets paid for the central characters of the play, there will be a greater acclaim for the show.
